How to Use

The STEEPV analysis (social, technological, economical, environmental, political, values) is a strategic tool tailored to your business. After completing this exercise you will have a clear understanding of the forces shaping your industry.

Step 1

Learn about the categories. It’s important to understand what goes into each category before starting your research. If you are working as a team, you can divide the categories among yourselves.

Step 2

Do the research for each category and try to back everything up with data when possible. If you’re looking for rules on which specific factors to include, it’s really up to you to decide the level of detail and the scope that is relevant to your analysis.

Step 3

It’s time to fill in the canvas. Depending on the size of your canvas you can complete it with post-its or by writing directly on the paper.

Step 4

Take the time to analyse the end result carefully. Discuss with your colleagues some of the implications of your findings. Look for opportunities and threats to your business.
